Kealkill stone circle
spectacular views over Bantry Bay to Sheeps Head and Beara Peninsulas
Whilst in wonderful West Cork, we visited Kealkill stone circle. It's a Bronze Age axial five-stone circle, typical in style of stone circles in Cork and Kerry. The circle's location on Maughanclea Hill offers spectacular views over Bantry Bay to Sheeps Head and Beara Peninsulas, and along the valley inland.
If you visit, it's advisable to park in the Kealkill village near the pub and walk up the hill. The road is narrow and there's nowhere much to park so it's best to walk. It's a steep climb but only takes about 20 minutes. Also wear sturdy boots, the field is a bit boggy.
Also there's a second stone circle, Breeny More, right across the road but we completely missed it! 🤦 So we'll have to go back!
