Lligwy Burial Chamber

In a small field of sheep sits this huge Neolithic burial chamber. A circle of upright stones supporting a massive (25 tonne!) capstone

Halfway down a quiet lane, just above the pretty village of Moelfre, in a small field of sheep sits this huge Neolithic burial chamber. A circle of upright stones supporting a massive (25 tonne!) capstone. It’s a squat structure with clear views down to the sea, and when excavated in the early part of the 20th century showed evidence of 15-30 men, women and children having been buried there.

Just a little further down the lane, across a field and through verdant atmospheric woodland can be found the Din Lligwy hut circle; the remains of a Iron Age settlement.

Cap your day off with a paddle off the white sands of Lligwy beach or coffee and cake in Ann’s Pantry in Moelfre. It’s the perfect day out for the modern antiquarian visiting the Isle of Anglesey.
