Ilkley Moor

A heavy mist that refused to lift, proved somewhat disorientating and eerily amplified every sound

Walking on Ilkley Moor at daybreak was always going to be an adventure. A heavy mist that refused to lift, proved somewhat disorientating and eerily amplified every sound. Sudden movements in the wild grass set my senses on edge, so I was relieved when I came across the 'Little Skirtful of Stones', which is, in fact, a rather large Bronze Age cairn. The energy from this site is palpable and affirming. I no longer felt that I was alone... hope you enjoy the poem!
