Book of the month October 2022

Victoria Jenkins - Visions of the Occult

October’s book of the month is here: Visions of the Occult by Victoria Jenkins published by Tate Publishing last month.

Visions of the Occult is a beautifully produced ascent into the occult, magical and esoteric collections of the Tate Archive; including works by Ithell Colquhoun, Paul Nash and Eileen Agar amongst many others. Here at Stone Club we have particularly enjoyed the chapter entitled ‘Magic Stones’, a total joy to see many of Ithell’s lesser known works produced in full colour within this chapter and consideration given to the animate landscape of West Penwith.

Victoria writes in a sympathetic way about these magical offerings, with the richly illustrated pages further bringing the book to life. We like to consider books as magical objects and this book is just that; it both contains magic within its pages and is a piece of magic in itself. A bible for a new age? We like to think so!
