Book of the Month February 2023

Grounded

February’s book of the month is Grounded by James Canton

From St James’s Chapel in Suffolk, with its bare stone walls and earthworm floor, we begin our journey to the stones with James Canton.

James takes us on a pilgrimage to discover what we are as individual living beings and to seek out those places of time-thin truths, those numinous places.

Grounded is a book that steps back in time, walking so as to see the world through the eye of those that have gone before.

The truly current, almost futuristic utopia of the Mesolithic mind is a revelation to read about. How we might once have loved taking no more than was needed from the land, living in a state of near harmony. While the past years of our known lives of pandemics, lockdowns, polarity and division played out I think of the move from the Mesolithic and Edenic existence to the creation of a new world. One of stone and our own hallowed spaces, not of nature as before but still within it. I’m aware there is hope and the chance to reconnect. Back to the singular truth that we are a part of nature and not apart from nature.

Grounded is published tomorrow by Canongate Books and is available in all good bookshops including our favourite neighbourhood bookshop Real Magic Books
