The Druids Circle
An ancient trackway, other small stone circles, ancient mounds and enclosures are dotted around the landscape.
Earlier this week I was attending a Hill and Moorland Leader training course at the Plas T Brenin mountain school. On Tuesday we were doing some navigation exercises in the coastal hills of Conwy Bay, one of these navigational legs took me directly through the Druids Circle that sits on a hilltop over looking the village of Penmaenmawr.
Despite its name it actually predates the druids by at least 2000 years and could be up to 5000 years old. An ancient trackway, other small stone circles, ancient mounds and enclosures are dotted around the landscape.
Even during my brief visit, with the views over Conwy Bay to the north and the coastal hills and moorland to the south, it was easy to see why this was such a significant place for our Neolithic ancestors.
