The life and environment of a modern-day hermit is gently observed in Ben Rivers' intimate, experimental documentary.

Bogancloch is where modern-day hermit Jake Williams lives, nestled in one of Scotland’s vast highland forests. His daily life is captured on different stocks of 16mm film by filmmaker and artist Ben Rivers.

Bogancloch had it’s world premiere at Locarno Film Festival 2024 and UK Premiere at Edinburgh Film Festival 2024.

Ben Rivers was born in Somerset, UK in 1972 and lives and works in London. Rivers’ films are typically intimate portrayals of solitary beings or isolated communities; his practice as a filmmaker treads a line between documentary and fiction. Rivers uses these themes as a starting point from which to imagine alternative narratives and existences in marginal worlds.
