A beautiful and intensive exploration of the artist, writer and occultist Ithell Colquhoun’s life and work. In Genius of the Fern Loved Gully, Amy weaves a picture of not only Ithell’s life but of the wider historical period and cultural climate of Cornwall situating her work and life in a way which up until this point had been absent, and offering an exploration of how it has continued to inspire contemporary artists and writers. There are of course plenty of stones, and full colour photographs of Ithell’s incredible paintings. An essential book for any Animist, Surrealist, Ithell fan or indeed any curious mind.
