April 2023

Julian Cope - Autodeddon

With attitude in his lattitude and longing in his longitude this month we bring you the one and only Julian Cope. Autogeddon is our April Album of the month.

It could easily have been Peggy Suicide or Jehovahkill, these two albums proceeding became, alongside Autogeddon, a classic trilogy of forward thinking megalithic brilliance. Before going any further it needs to be stated than when choosing this album we implore you to explore all that followed and what Julian is doing now. Never one to look back Julian’s trip is one of becoming and not getting stuck. That said we love this LP and always will and so celebrate it we must.

Autogeddon was the album we were listening to as postcards from Julian arrived through the door from his many adventures to stone circles and ancient sites while researching The Modern Antiquarian. The seeds were planted here.

Paranormal in the West Country was even recorded within West Kennett Long Barrow, how much more Stone Club can you get folks?

Aside from these quests to ancient sites these are also songs taking an anti-consumerist approach, especially against fossil fuels and car culture, oh and greed heads. Julian hated greed heads. Autogeddon also contains some of Julian’s best lyrics: 'Like a pig pulling a cartload of sausages; I'm drawing my own conclusions’!

This is a fantastic album, so sit back, press play and let yourself be transported.
